Portfolio of Comic Books
My latest comic series "Close to Midnight" kept me very
busy in my spare time. It was published bi-monthly in Rip
It Up magazine in 2008 and 2009. You can view all the previously printed strips at the Close to Midnight site. The quality of the strip
was vastly improved in print, but this was a fun Flash site to build with some extra info on the characters. I'm sure I'll visit Fred and Vicki again someday...

Southern Tribe
In 1995 and 1996, I launched a professional superhero comic
book series throughout New Zealand called Southern Tribe.
I wrote, illustrated and self-published the series as an experiment
to see if a mainstream story could do well in New Zealand.
Southern Tribe ran for four bi-annual issues (with the unofficial
end of Southern Tribe in an Armageddon Convention magazine
in 1998, which I also did the cover for). The skills I learned
by physically making the comic and the business management
skills I developed are still serving me well today. Thanks
to everyone who submitted Southern Tribe fanmail. I read every
letter!
The story centres around a group of four genetically altered,
psychically powered heroes living in the near future in New
Zealand. They use their gifts to protect civilians
from an army of terrorists that threaten to overrun the city
of Auckland. As time progresses, the team faces the ones responsible
for altering their DNA and discover that they are not the
only ones who have been granted these gifts...
